چکیده

This paper presents a new concept for 3D coding of freeform surfaces. The proposed coding technique uses the surface signature representation scheme [1]. This representation scheme captures the 3-D curvature information of any free-form surface and encodes it into a 2-D image corresponding to a certain point on the surface. This image is unique for this point and is independent of the object translation or orientation in space. For this reason this image is called “Surface Point Signature” (SPS). Using SPS in 3D coding has many applications in 3D compression, 3D pose estimation and in 3D object recognition.

3D Models Recognition in Fourier Domain Using Compression of the Spherical Mesh up to the Models Surface

Representing 3D models in diverse fields have automatically paved the way of storing, indexing, classifying, and retrieving 3D objects. Classification and retrieval of 3D models demand that the 3D models represent in a way to capture the local and global shape specifications of the object. This requires establishing a 3D descriptor or signature that summarizes the pivotal shape properties of th...

Clustered Signatures for Modeling and Recognizing 3D Rigid Objects

This paper describes a probabilistic method for three-dimensional object recognition using a shared pool of surface signatures. This technique uses flatness, orientation, and convexity signatures that encode the surface of a free-form object into three discriminative vectors, and then creates a shared pool of data by clustering the signatures using a distance function. This method applies the B...

3D object identification with color and curvature signatures

In this paper we describe a model-based object identification system. Given a set of 3D objects and a scene containing one or more of these objects, the system identifies which objects appear in the scene by matching surface signatures. Surface signatures are feature vectors that reflect the probability of occurrence of the features for a given surface. Two types of surface signatures are emplo...

Invariant Categorisation of Polygonal Objects using Multi-resolution Signatures

With the increasing use of 3D objects and models, mining of 3D databases is becoming an important issue. However, 3D object recognition is very time consuming because of variations due to position, rotation, size and mesh resolution. A fast categorisation can be used to discard non-similar objects, such that only few objects need to be compared in full detail. We present a simple method for cha...

A novel local surface feature for 3D object recognition under clutter and occlusion

This paper presents a highly distinctive local surface feature called the TriSI feature for recognizing 3D objects in the presence of clutter and occlusion. For a feature point, we rst construct a unique and repeatable Local Reference Frame (LRF) using the implicit geometrical information of neighboring triangular faces. We then generate three signatures from the three orthogonal coordinate axe...
